Israel Announces 4-Hour Humanitarian Cease-Fire

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) scheduled a four-hour humanitarian cease-fire Tuesday in the Gaza Strip, after another night of heavy fighting between it and Hamas saw at least 15 people killed in a single incident as a UN school came under attack.

The IDF said that the cease-fire, which will take place between 3pm and 7pm local time, “will not apply to the areas in which IDF soldiers are currently operating.” It added that residents must not to return to areas which they were asked to evacuate.

The statement concludes with a warning that “the IDF will respond to any attempt to exploit this window to harm Israeli citizens and Israeli soldiers.”

The most recent humanitarian cease-fire in Gaza was on July 27 and scheduled to last for 24-hours. However Hamas, the militant group that governs Gaza, continued to fire rockets into Israel, prompting the IDF to respond.
